Our mom was born February 8, 1947, in Omaha to Leonard and Clara (Steeden) Larsen. She grew up on a farm near Fort Calhoun where she was active in 4-H and talked often of her farm responsibilities. Upon graduating from Blair High School, she attended Midland Lutheran College and earned her degree in Elementary Education. Mom first taught in the classroom and later became a beloved elementary school counselor. She spent 31 years (23 of them for Fremont Public Schools) touching the lives of countless children. Upon retirement she continued to make a difference in the lives of many people within the Fremont community, especially those facing difficult times, through her active involvement in Make-a-Wish Foundation and Life Choices. Her generous spirit was evident to anyone who knew her.
Mom lived a life rich with fulfillment and laughter. She found joy in keeping busy and said ''yes'' to everything. If you knew our mom, she always liked being on the go. You could often find her in Lincoln supporting the University of Nebraska volleyball team and traveling to the Final Four with dear friends. She loved traveling, gardening, sewing, baking, spending time with friends, cheering on her grandchildren at their events, and of course putt'n around on her pontoon. She loved lake life. It brought family and friends together, and it provided her with peace when she was on her own. But even in solitude, she never felt alone - Jesus Christ was at the heart of her life, filling her with boundless love and contentment.
Preceded in death by parents Leonard and Clara Larsen, and brother, David. Ames, IA Monday, October 6, 2025 My heartfelt sympathies to Janet’s friends and family. I worked with Janet at Fremont Public Schools. She was a creative and gifted counselor and helped many families, students and staff with her terrific support. Janet’s sense of humor was legendary among her friends. So many fun memories with Janet as a colleague and as a great friend. Afternoons on the water were the best times of the summer with Janet. I will miss her deeply.Georgia Perea
